PLOT:
The movie follows a group of young friends in the city of Tel Aviv and is as much a love song to the city as it is an exploration of the claim that people in Tel Aviv are isolated from the rest of the country and the turmoil it's going through. The movie looks at young people's lives in Tel Aviv through the POVs of gays and straights, Jews and Arabs, men and women. It all begins when Noam, a young Israeli soldier, serves in the reserve forces and meets at a check point a Palestinian young man called Ashraf. Following an incident during which Noam misplaces his ID card at the check point, Ashraf shows up on the doorstep of the apartment that Noam shares with a gay man and a straight woman. How will the meeting affect all of their lives?
TRAMA:
Il film inizia da un checkpoint sul confine israelo-palestinese, inserendoci subito in un clima di forte politicizzazione (l'estrema tensione fra i due popoli) che accompagnerà, sullo sfondo, tutto il film. La città di Tel Aviv diventa praticamente un personaggio del film e le critiche politiche sono spesso assai dure e precise. La storia del film è imperniata sull'amore tra Noam, israeliano, e Ashraf, un immigrato palestinese. Capiamo subito che il loro amore è fortissimo e che la loro relazione, centrale nel film, è proibita. Nel film abbiamo anche una importante relazione etero, le cui scene d'amore vengono spesso accavallate a quelle dell'amore tra i due ragazzi gay, come per dimostrare che l'amore è lo stesso in entrambi i casi. Quasi comiche sono invece le scene che parlano dei terroristi suicida gay, che non sanno se in paradiso riceveranno in premio una donna o un uomo vergine. Curioso anche il riferimento al Sansone biblico come primo terrorista suicida. Un film di altissimo valore figurativo e artistico, senz'altro il migliore del regista Fox, che dà alla tematica omosessuale un grandissimo rilievo, ingigantita anche dalla difficile e tesissima situazione politica e ambientale.
