IT'S MY PARTY (UN PARTY PER NICK)

PLOT:

"You won't leave me, will you?" Nick asks Brandon shortly after revealing to him the results of his last blood test for HIV. "I don't want to die alone." In spite of Brandon's protestations, the two soon find the love they had shared for many years in ruins. One year after their breakup, Nick is confronted with a ravaged immune system and a CT Scan and lab values which, along with his worsening forgetfulness, clenches the diagnosis of Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML) -- a condition he has seen claim his friends and one which he vows will not take him. Due to the aggressive nature of the disease, he has only a few days of conscious life remaining. His plan, he announces to family and "extended family," is to voluntarily end his life himself before the disease renders him unrecognizable to those he loves and he, in turn, is unable to recognize them. Uninvited to the farewell party, Brandon's presence is greeted with jeers from those who see him as having abandoned Nick is his time of greatest need.

PLOT:

Frustrated by his ongoing failure to meet Mr. Right, Blaine stumbles upon what might be his perfect match in an online chat room-Xander, a sweet, hunky guy who's recently moved to LA. Blaine è il tipico ragazzo gay alla ricerca dell'amore, purtroppo senza molto successo. Un giorno incontra in una chat gay "Xander", l'uomo dei suoi sogni, ed è subito un colpo di fulmine per entrambi che iniziano così una intensa relazione virtuale. Dopo molto tempo decidono finalmente di incontrarsi in un caffè. Ma nel mondo di Blain niente è facile. Scopre infatti che ha sempre chattato col suo nuovo "fidanzato" usando il profilo del suo compagno di stanza Cameron. Il fatto è che Cameron è uno dei più sexy ballerini go-go e ora è questo il ragazzo che Xander si aspetta d'incontrare. LE FIL (THE STRING)

PLOT:

Malik has a lot on this place when he returns home to Tunisia after living in France. He's processing his father's death, he can't come out to his mother, and his childhood anxieties have resurfaced. But all of Malik's problems seem to fade away when he falls for Bilal, the dreamy houseboy at his mother's bourgeois estate.

Le fil, opera prima di Mehdi Ben Attia, è un film sulla libertà di vivere l´omosessualità. Il filo del titolo è quello che lega il protagonista a sua madre e a un certo tipo di condizionamenti sociali. Nonostante il luogo delle riprese e la nazionalità del regista (residente da anni a Parigi), della troupe, del produttore e degli attori, il film non ha connotazioni esclusivamente tunisine. La storia potrebbe accadere ovunque. È quella di Malik (Antonin Stahly, musicista e liutaio, attore a 10 anni per il "Mahabaratha" di Peter Brook) che, tornato a Tunisi dopo aver vissuto a Parigi, s´innamora di Bilal (l´algerino Salim Kechiouche, unico attore magrebino a non temere il ruolo di un gay). Non siamo, però, dalle parti di "Cus-cus". Malik non è un povero emigrante di ritorno al paese: appartiene all´alta borghesia tunisina, laureato in architettura a Parigi, ha deciso che la sua casa è quella dove è nato. Sara, la madre, l´accoglie a braccia aperte nella villa di famiglia circondata da un grande giardino che lambisce il mare. Anche lei dovrà fare i conti con la "diversità" di Malik. Sullo sfondo della villa, la medina di Hammamet con le sue mura che al tramonto si tingono di rosa.

RAG TAG

PLOT:

Raymond and Tagbo met when they were eight. Although from radically different worlds - Raymond/Rag is from a single parent West Indian home, while Tagbo/Tag is the only son of middle class Nigerian parents - they remain inseparable until the cusp of their teens, Social Services take Rag from London. Ten years later, Rag returns to find Tag. They still want to be together. But now twenty-three, their need has shifted into something more urgent and consuming. Other things have changed too. Tag is just finishing law school and discovering how hard it is to find a position. Tag also has a white girlfriend, and since her impressive credentials aren't even good enough for Tag's father, Rag doesn't stand a chance. Rag sees even less room for himself in Tag's life when Tag's friend Olisa flies into London. Young, rich and shady, Rag knows Olisa is trouble. When Rag and Tag are invited to Nigeria for Olisa's Chieftaincy ceremony, Rag is determined to save Tag from his machinations. TRAMA:
Raymond (Rag) e Tagbo (Tag) si sono incontrati all'età di otto anni nei sobborghi di londra dove vivono. Nonostante provengano da ambienti molto differenti rimangono uniti in una forte amicizia fino alla fine della loro adolescenza, quando i Servizi Sociali costringono Rag ad andare a vivere con la nonna a Birmingham. I due ragazzi si incontrano di nuovo dopo dieci anni e verificano che il loro legame è immutato. Un viaggio che compiono insieme in Nigeria, la patria di Tag, rivelerà che il sentimento che li unisce va molto al di là dell'amicizia. Tornati a Londra devono ora conciliare la loro nuova situazione di coppia con le pressioni sociali delle famiglie e degli amici, le lusinghe del denaro facile, le minacce di un ricattatore e il fanatismo bigotto che li circonda. Movimentato da una impressionante colonna sonora hip hop e con un insieme di attori di gran talento, questo film, opera prima del regista, è un'opera coraggiosa e lirica che intreccia bellezza, amore e malvagità dentro un mondo qualche volta molto pericoloso.

STRAIGHT-JACKET

PLOT:

Guy Stone is blissfully closeted, picking up tricks for one-night-stands, while capturing the country's heart as "America's most eligible bachelor". However, Guy's carefully managed façade collapses when he comes up for the lead in S.R.O. studio's version of Ben-Hur. Things turn sour for the film idol when a fellow actor, Freddie Stevens, decides to steal the lead in Ben-Hur from Guy by taking a picture of Guy exiting a gay bar. Freddie plans to out Guy to the world and ruin his career. Jerry, Guy's repressed lesbian ball-bustingly ambitious agent, connives to cover up the impending outing and ensure Guy the role in Ben-Hur by marrying her client off with great fanfare to the studio head's secretary, Sally, who just happens to also be a slavishly devoted Guy Stone fan. However, Sally isn't aware the marriage is a sham.To avoid his adoring new bride as much as possible, Guy has Jerry sign him onto the next available film, which turns out to be 'Blood Mine' — a disastrously arch pro-union film about the corrupt goings on at a coal mine. The young, idealistic, and terribly handsome writer of the novel that the film is based on, Rick Foster, quickly gets roped into convoluting the plot of this already-bad adaptation of his heartfelt book largely because of a chance meeting between him and the film's star, Guy. The attraction the two men feel for one another is instantaneous and propels the rest of the plot forward.

Il film, basato su una commedia dello stesso regista, è ambientato nella Hollywood degli anni '50 e racconta di un bellissimo ragazzo, star del cinema, che sposa la segretaria di uno studio per nascondere meglio la sua omosessualità. Lo stile del film è quello delle commedie da camera tipiche di quegli anni. L'attore hollywoodiano Guy Stone spende gran parte del suo tempo a posare come star per i media che lo inseguono ovunque, e quindi a nascondere in tutti i modi le sue vere tendenze sessuali. Una sera viene però scoperto da un'attore rivale che lo fotografa in un club gay. Queste immagini arrivano sulla stampa e mettono in serio pericolo la sua carriera. Decide allora di sposare una bella segretaria degli studios, Sally, che non sa niente della sua omosessualità e non le sembra vero di poter diventare la moglie del suo attore preferito. Innamorata cotta di Guy, Sally non si preoccupa di chiedergli perchè non la porti mai fuori o perchè abbia scelto di dormire in camere separate. Vive ugualmente felice accontentandosi di quello che Guy le offre sicura di stare vivendo un sogno bellissimo. Ma l'inevitabile accade e Guy presto l'abbandona dopo essersi innamorato di uno sceneggiatore che peraltro ha una coscienza sociale assai diversa dalla sua. Nonostante le diversità di vedute i due uomini formano una coppia assai solida anche se a volte un po' artificiosa a causa della fatica per mantenerla segreta, considerando che siamo anche nel pieno della caccia ai "rossi"...

PLOT:

The movie follows a group of young friends in the city of Tel Aviv and is as much a love song to the city as it is an exploration of the claim that people in Tel Aviv are isolated from the rest of the country and the turmoil it's going through. The movie looks at young people's lives in Tel Aviv through the POVs of gays and straights, Jews and Arabs, men and women. It all begins when Noam, a young Israeli soldier, serves in the reserve forces and meets at a check point a Palestinian young man called Ashraf. Following an incident during which Noam misplaces his ID card at the check point, Ashraf shows up on the doorstep of the apartment that Noam shares with a gay man and a straight woman. How will the meeting affect all of their lives?

TRAMA:

Il film inizia da un checkpoint sul confine israelo-palestinese, inserendoci subito in un clima di forte politicizzazione (l'estrema tensione fra i due popoli) che accompagnerà, sullo sfondo, tutto il film. La città di Tel Aviv diventa praticamente un personaggio del film e le critiche politiche sono spesso assai dure e precise. La storia del film è imperniata sull'amore tra Noam, israeliano, e Ashraf, un immigrato palestinese. Capiamo subito che il loro amore è fortissimo e che la loro relazione, centrale nel film, è proibita. Nel film abbiamo anche una importante relazione etero, le cui scene d'amore vengono spesso accavallate a quelle dell'amore tra i due ragazzi gay, come per dimostrare che l'amore è lo stesso in entrambi i casi. Quasi comiche sono invece le scene che parlano dei terroristi suicida gay, che non sanno se in paradiso riceveranno in premio una donna o un uomo vergine. Curioso anche il riferimento al Sansone biblico come primo terrorista suicida. Un film di altissimo valore figurativo e artistico, senz'altro il migliore del regista Fox, che dà alla tematica omosessuale un grandissimo rilievo, ingigantita anche dalla difficile e tesissima situazione politica e ambientale.

YOSSI & JAGGER

PLOT:

Based on a true story, Yossi & Jagger portrays the love affair of two Israeli officers in an IDF position on the Israeli-Lebanese border. They are commanders, they are in love, and they try to find a place of their own in an oppressing and rigid system, which sends them to defend a cause they do not necessarily believe in. Yossi, the company commander, is an introvert guy and largely a man-of-the-system. Jagger, the platoon commander, is an open and much more liberated guy. He is the star of the company. Yossi is determined to keep their love in secret. Whereas, Jagger, who is about to finish the service, believes that Yossi should leave the army with him. Shortly before departing for a dangerous ambush, the tension between the lovers gets high almost explosive.Yossi & Jagger portrays in a courageous, genuine, amusing and sometines painful fashion the complicated and sensative topic of "gays in the military". It also portrays the tragic structure of life of young Israelis today. The film presents an enchanting ensemble of young men and women that were supposed, in this time of their lives, to dance, study and love. Instead, due to the mandatory army service and the complicated situation in the region, they have to devote their most beautiful years to their country, to be soldiers, to kill and get killed. In Yossi & Jagger you can find a chef who finds comfort in cooking a gourmet cuisine, a soldier who believes in reincarnation, and two young women who try to survive in a men's world. By showing the apparently small details of the commanders' and soldiers' lives, the film creators emphasize the distorted situation in which these men and women are forced to live and die.

In una base militare israeliana ai confini con il Libano, due soldati tentano di nascondere la loro relazione omosessuale. Yossi, militare in carriera, vorrebbe che la loro storia restasse lontana dai riflettori. Invece Jagger (militare di leva) ha intenzione di rompere questo tabù e, una volta terminato il servizio di leva, tornare a casa per presentare il suo nuovo 'compagno' alla famiglia. Un film che emoziona con semplicità riuscendo a raccontarci l’universale meraviglia, l’intensa umanità e il dolore dell’amore. Grande successo sia in patria, dove è stato proiettato anche dentro alle caserme, che all'estero.

TRAMA:

Ispirato ad un fatto di cronaca, Prom Queen racconta la storia vera di Marc Hall, il giovane studente canadese che nel 2002 scatenò un caso mediatico, quando decise di sporgere denuncia contro la Durham Catholic School che frequentava. L’accusa contro la direzione del liceo era di aver infranto la Carta dei diritti Umani, riconosciuti dalla costituzione canadese. La richiesta di Marc era molto semplice: desiderava partecipare al ballo della festa di maturità (nella tradizione anglosassone il prom appunto), facendosi accompagnare dal suo fidanzato. Come tutti i suoi compagni e le sue compagne, Marc voleva condividere quel momento speciale con il suo amore. Di fronte al rifiuto della direzione, lui non si abbatte e nonostante abbia solo diciassette anni, decide di lottare per i suoi diritti. Comincia così la storia di una battaglia giudiziaria contro la discriminazione per questioni di identità sessuale, che ha fatto il giro del mondo. Raccontato come se fosse una bellissima fiaba, il film ricostruisce uno spaccato sociale sorprendente. Un mondo in cui le persone semplici, dai genitori di Marc, cattolici praticanti, ai suoi compagni di classe, fino ai bigotti vicini di casa, solidarizzano con la sua lotta contro l’ingiustizia. Condividendo con lui il desiderio di un mondo migliore, in cui le differenze non possono più essere occasione di discriminazione. La corte suprema del Canada darà ragione al piccolo Marc, permettendogli di partecipare al ballo di fine anno con il suo Jason? Rigenerante.

Just when it seems that Omer has completely lost his spark and all seems lost, Enter Ronen, the handsome journalist who ignites the flame Omer has been seeking. Everyone is hoping for a change. They are waiting for the light. The light that will thaw their frozen hearts. But only one person has the answer, Matilda Rose, the alien loving best-selling novelist can solve the issue; Is love dead or are we just looking in all the wrong places?

La pubblicità del film lo definisce la prima commedia gay fatta in Israele. Il film ci presenta uno squarcio di vita gay nella Tel Aviv di oggi. Il regista lascia la politica sullo sfondo e si concentra sulle relazioni interpersonali di un gruppo di amici gay e lesbiche. Al centro c'è l'adorabile Omer, vicino ai trenta, che ancora non ha trovato se stesso, e il suo vivace miglior amico Mickey che involontariamente finiscono per avere entrambi un appuntamento con lo stesso affascinante giornalista Ronen. Ad essi si aggiunge una assortita famiglia di personaggi e amanti che cercano tutti la stessa cosa: un raggio di luce che li conduca all'amore vero che stanno aspettando.

DO COMECO AO FIM (FROM BEGINNING TO END)

PLOT:

One of the most controversial films in this year’s Festival, causing a stir in its native Brazil, is From Beginning To End, a drama that delves into a passionate relationship between two brothers. Francisco is five when his brother, Thomás, is born. They share the same mother, Julieta, but different fathers. From the start the boys are close, and always show affection for each other – constantly hugging and even falling asleep in each others’ arms. When the boys take a trip to Buenos Aires to visit Francisco’s father, Pedro, the Argentinean disapproves of the boys’ behaviour, insisting to their mother that the boys are ‘too intimate’. But Julieta pays no heed to her former husband’s warning.  Fifteen years later, on the night of Julieta’s funeral, the brothers’ affections for each other are taken to an overtly sexual level. When Thomás is invited to Russia for 3 years to train for the Olympic swimming team, the brothers must make a tough decision – stay together for love, or part to enable Thomás to take up a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Bold in its theme, this melodrama is not afraid to tackle an issue few films face. However, this is not a gritty, low-rent, morality tale; the sun is forever shining, everyone thrives in a wealthy lifestyle, and the adult brothers are pin-up worthy gorgeous. Unashamedly romantic, and, like its two protagonists, unafraid of the consequences, From Beginning To End is bound to be one of this year’s talking points.

TRAMA:

“Do Começo ao Fim” ovvero dall’inizio alla fine, è il titolo originale del film di Aluisio Abranches, intitolato in inglese "From Beginning to End". Le tematiche sono quanto mai scottanti: incesto e omosessualità. Il film, infatti, racconta la storia diFrancisco e Thomas, fratelli di stessa madre, cresciuti in una famiglia agiata, amorevole e d'ampie vedute.Già da bambini si guardano con occhi diversi e si scambiano le prime effusioni: sguardi rubati e carezze nella vasca da bagno. Ma è solo l’incipit di un rapporto che, una volta cresciuti, si rafforzerà sempre più, trasformandosi in amore totale. Un sentimento spudoratamente innocente, puro e indissolubile. È stato definito un film "scandaloso" e visto in patria da oltre centomila spettatori;  il sito ufficiale del film è stato cliccato da quasi mezzo milione di visitatori. I temi sono affrontati dal regista al di là di ogni stereotipo e, soprattutto, immergendo la vicenda in un'atmosfera quasi irreale, incontaminata, fuori dal mondo e colma di stupore per la vita. Il regista ha ovviamente affermato che: “L’unica intenzione era quella di mostrare una storia d’amore, nonostante tutte le altre circostanze”. La pellicola sarà distribuita in Italia dalla Atlantide Entertainment, che si affaccia nel mondo della distribuzione di film stranieri, nel tentativo di dare visibilità a quelle opere, nuove, recenti o parte ormaidella storia del cinema, che nel nostro paese, per motivi diversi, non trovano o non hanno trovato uno spazio.
