DO COMECO AO FIM (FROM BEGINNING TO END)

PLOT:

One of the most controversial films in this year’s Festival, causing a stir in its native Brazil, is From Beginning To End, a drama that delves into a passionate relationship between two brothers. Francisco is five when his brother, Thomás, is born. They share the same mother, Julieta, but different fathers. From the start the boys are close, and always show affection for each other – constantly hugging and even falling asleep in each others’ arms. When the boys take a trip to Buenos Aires to visit Francisco’s father, Pedro, the Argentinean disapproves of the boys’ behaviour, insisting to their mother that the boys are ‘too intimate’. But Julieta pays no heed to her former husband’s warning.  Fifteen years later, on the night of Julieta’s funeral, the brothers’ affections for each other are taken to an overtly sexual level. When Thomás is invited to Russia for 3 years to train for the Olympic swimming team, the brothers must make a tough decision – stay together for love, or part to enable Thomás to take up a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Bold in its theme, this melodrama is not afraid to tackle an issue few films face. However, this is not a gritty, low-rent, morality tale; the sun is forever shining, everyone thrives in a wealthy lifestyle, and the adult brothers are pin-up worthy gorgeous. Unashamedly romantic, and, like its two protagonists, unafraid of the consequences, From Beginning To End is bound to be one of this year’s talking points.

TRAMA:

“Do Começo ao Fim” ovvero dall’inizio alla fine, è il titolo originale del film di Aluisio Abranches, intitolato in inglese "From Beginning to End". Le tematiche sono quanto mai scottanti: incesto e omosessualità. Il film, infatti, racconta la storia diFrancisco e Thomas, fratelli di stessa madre, cresciuti in una famiglia agiata, amorevole e d'ampie vedute.Già da bambini si guardano con occhi diversi e si scambiano le prime effusioni: sguardi rubati e carezze nella vasca da bagno. Ma è solo l’incipit di un rapporto che, una volta cresciuti, si rafforzerà sempre più, trasformandosi in amore totale. Un sentimento spudoratamente innocente, puro e indissolubile. È stato definito un film "scandaloso" e visto in patria da oltre centomila spettatori;  il sito ufficiale del film è stato cliccato da quasi mezzo milione di visitatori. I temi sono affrontati dal regista al di là di ogni stereotipo e, soprattutto, immergendo la vicenda in un'atmosfera quasi irreale, incontaminata, fuori dal mondo e colma di stupore per la vita. Il regista ha ovviamente affermato che: “L’unica intenzione era quella di mostrare una storia d’amore, nonostante tutte le altre circostanze”. La pellicola sarà distribuita in Italia dalla Atlantide Entertainment, che si affaccia nel mondo della distribuzione di film stranieri, nel tentativo di dare visibilità a quelle opere, nuove, recenti o parte ormaidella storia del cinema, che nel nostro paese, per motivi diversi, non trovano o non hanno trovato uno spazio.
